Speech Therapy

PEDIATRICS

Speech

  • Articulation: difficulty saying a certain sound or sounds ("wabbit" for "rabbit")
  • Phonology: difficulty with certain patterns of sounds (leaving off the beginning of ending sounds in words)
  • Fluency/Stuttering: difficulty getting words out or repetition of part or whole words

Language

  • Receptive: the ability to understand words and language
  • Expressive: the ability to communicate thoughts and feelings
  • Pragmatics: the ability to appropriately communicate in social situations

ADULTS

Dysphagia

  • Swallowing disorders that may occur as a result of various medical disorders
  • Modified Barium Swallow Studies can be completed here at HCMC

Cognitive/Memory

  • Cognitive/memory difficulties can make it hard for a person to remember important information, solve problems, or plan their day

Dysarthria

  • Speech disorder caused muscle weakness

Aphasia

  • Acquired language disorder resulting from injury to the brain
  • Includes spoken language expression and comprehension, written expression and reading comprehension

Voice

  • Voice Difficulties (hoarseness, weakness, etc.) can make it hard for a person to communicate daily wants/needs
  • SPEAK OUT! trained to treat people with Parkinson's
